In Sopron, the appreciation of antiquities dates back to centuries-old traditions. Since the exhibition held at the Hungarian Congress of Physicians and Naturalists in 1847, the collection and preservation of antiquities have been emphasized. In 1913, a new museum was opened amid great celebrations, and over time, the further accumulation of museum materials necessitated the establishment of a separate building for archaeological artifacts.
