Fáber-rét

Sopron

The natural vegetation of the Sopron Mountains is primarily formed by forests, but smaller and larger meadows and pastures have also developed, mainly associated with previous forest work done with horses. The forest clearings, relatively extensive and still quite natural, between the Szalamandra Lake and the Károly Lookout Tower, are a prime example of this, known as Fáber-rét.

The majority of the meadow is covered by submontane hay meadow vegetation. Besides the submontane hay meadows, characteristic species include the useful earthworm, common mullein, common eyebright, and meadow geranium. Among the protected plant species, the spring gentian, broad-leaved helleborine, and spotted St. John's wort are present in the area.

Common lizard is considered frequent among the protected vertebrate species, and among the invertebrate species, five protected ground beetle species have been identified in the area.
