Fountain of Loyalty

Sopron

Fountain of Loyalty is intended to symbolize Sopron's loyalty three times, both to Hungary and to Europe. Firstly, in 1977 to the Hungarian king, in 1921 to Hungary during a referendum, and in 1989 to Europe during the Pan-European Picnic.

The fountain features three bronze figures: István bíró, Sopron's first known judge, symbolizing loyalty; Sopronyi Thurner Mihály, the city's famous mayor, holding a ballot symbolizing patriotism; and a female figure holding a piece of the Iron Curtain, symbolizing freedom, which divided Europe for decades.
