Nationalpark Neusiedler See

Seewinkel

National Park Neusiedler See – Seewinkel has become a defining brand of local tourism around Lake Neusiedl in recent years. In Burgenland, it attracts many visitors in spring and autumn due to bird migration, as it is one of Europe's best birdwatching destinations. Exploring the national park by bicycle provides the best experience, and if possible, this should not be missed.

The national park consists of six parts and also includes seven communities along the shores of Lake Neusiedl: Andau, Apetlon, Illmitz, Neusiedl am See, Podersdorf, Tadten, and Weiden am See. A unique feature of the national park areas is that alpine, Pannonian, Asian, Mediterranean, and northern plant and animal species can be found simultaneously. The landscape is dotted with vast wetlands, pastures, meadows, dry grasslands, sandy steppes, and saline areas.

The center of the national park is Illmitz, where a modern, year-round visitor and environmental education center (Nationalparkzentrum) was opened in 2010, serving as an information center for tourists. Here, an interactive exhibition is also available, worth visiting for numerous program tips, and guided tours are organized throughout the year to areas that we might not find on our own. It's particularly worthwhile to embark on such a tour with children.
