Pan-European Picnic Memorial Site
The Pan-European Picnic Memorial Site, located just a stone's throw away from Sopron, awaits history enthusiasts.
For many years, the Iron Curtain prevented escape from Eastern Europe to the "West." The fence system stretching 260 kilometers between Hungary and Austria consisted of several defense sections, with the first major section opened on August 19, 1989, with the slogan "Tear down and take away."
The memorial park created at the border crossing site welcomes those seeking to remember with photographs, descriptions, a watchtower, pieces of the Iron Curtain, a children's playground, and a resting area.
