St. Michael's Church
St. Michael's Church is the oldest parish church in Sopron. Located along an important thoroughfare in the Szentmihálydomb district, it was built in the 13th century in a cemetery according to early medieval customs, before the Mongol invasion, placing it outside the fortified city walls. Originally constructed in the Romanesque style, the church was rebuilt in the Gothic style in the 15th century. Following the Sopron fire of 1728, it underwent Baroque renovations, and later, Storno Ferenc removed the Baroque characteristics, transforming it into a neo-Gothic style. Today, it stands as one of the most significant Gothic churches in Hungary.
