Trianon Memorial Park
In the Sopron Forest, many memorials related to the history of Sopron can be found, and one of these memorials is the park located near the Károly Lookout Tower, which was created on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Trianon. This small park aims to commemorate this sad historical event and national cohesion, symbolizing the dismemberment of Greater Hungary.
According to the Treaty of Trianon (or Trianon Dictate), Hungary lost about two-thirds of its territory, 38% of its industry, and 67% of its national income, as well as significant portions of its Hungarian-speaking population and 84% of its forest areas. In the Trianon Memorial Park, the contour of Hungary, the territories lost due to the dictate, is laid out using natural stone and small stones, while the paths symbolize the annexation of these territories. The areas annexed are covered with red stones, while the current territory of Hungary is represented by green stones, with the double cross and the triple mound placed in the center.
